Strongly architectural in form, this chimneypiece is carved from Portland stone. Based on the designs of the English ornamental designer Batty Langley (1696-1751), bold, rusticated ‘quoins’ have been used to reinforce the strength of the design. The word quoin derives from the French for corner.
