This white marble chimneypiece echoes the severity and minimalism of the Soane chimneypiece found in his own remarkable house in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, which is now a museum. In this example, the fluted frieze is punctuated by squared paterae and stop-fluted jambs, which continue down the without-end blocks to further emphasise the severity of the piece.
