An important, documented, statuary marble and gilt bronze mounted chimneypiece designed by Sir John Soane; sculpted and supplied by Thomas Grundy in 1826 for The Lady’s Morning Room, at Pell Wall Hall, Market Drayton, Shropshire. The inset rectangular, moulded frieze is paneled and framed in gilt bronze, below a rectangular shelf with rounded corners. Unusually, the side returns feature similar decoration headed by square panels, as do the jambs.
