The moulded rectangular shelf decorated with a delicately carved bead of running pearls. The frieze with vigorously carved scrolling flowering foliage centred with a leaf spray on the recessed panel. The jambs in the form of volutes carved with acanthus above husk filled flutes. The blockings flanking the frieze with patarae decorated with acanthus. The whole supported on plinth blocks. The purity of the white statuary marble and the thickness of it and the delicate carving of the Neo- classical style foliage is consistent with the chimneypiece being carved and made in Italy.
